Restoring a replaced file

Hey all,

I had a file called Media on my desktop that held ALL of my music, photos, and videos. My sister yesterday replaced the media folder on my desktop with a media folder shortcut for her iPod iTunes folder (damn 11 year old). She replaced it and now i lost a about 20 gigs of files. In an act of desperation i tried system restore and nothing was changed. Is their anything I can do to get this folder back? (Yes this is what I get for not backing up my files I know)

Thank you,

First of all files that hold other files are referred to as folders or directories. If the folder on your desktop was a shortcut to a folder elsewhere on the disk (as folders on the desktop often are) then your files may still be on the drive. Because I get the feeling that the drive has been written to quite a bit since this happened I doubt any attempt to recover the files would be successfully. go start>search>files and folders and search "local hard drives" for a file you have lost. if found it will also display the folder the file is in.

Good luck.

A shortcut will not overwrite a folder.

You can have a folder called Media and a shortcut called Media on the desktop at the same time. The shortcut will be a file with the name media.lnk

So it either replaced a shortcut and your stuff is still there - or she deleted the media folder.
