RESTORING A MIRROR ARRAY..

Chunkee

Lifer
I have a server running on a Soltek MB (a64) with VIA sata raid. I am using 2 120gb seagate sata hdds.

As of one week, the array (or hdd) is failing. During post, the RAID bios comes ups and states one of drives needs to be duplicated. During the attempt it fails and continues to boot on the 1 good drive.

I have brand new drive to replace the other...if it truly is the other. My question is this...

Since one of the disks is operational, do i have to create another array? If I do, will it hose the installation and not continue to boot properly? I am hoping that it is just the drive and not the controller so that I can put in the new one and rebuild it without problem.

Also, soltek does not have a window based RAID utility, does anyone know if there is a VIA raid utility on another motherboard with same chipset that will work for the one on the Soltek?

thanks
