My current phone has some kind of 3rd party ROM on it and it has been unlocked. When I get a replacement phone (same make a model) it'll have a different ROM. Would restoring a backup made under my 3rd party ROM to this new phone work? Backups were made using Sprite.

Which phone? We need a model number and brand.
"Some kind of ROM" doesnt help much. We probably need specifics.

Backups should be OK in any case.

You've got a Touch Pro iirc from other threads. They reccomend not restoring a backup from different versions of Windows mobile as it will change the registry settings, ect. One of the backup software companies, Sprite backup, I believe, say thier product will work even going to different versions of WM, but I know SPB reccomends not doing it. If you are just wanting to backup contacts, texts, tasks, stuff like that and not registry settings, try a free program called PIM backup. That stuff will have no problem going from different versions.
