restore color to macbook air

how do I restore the color to macbook air display that has turned black?

Turn the brightness back up? Click the trackpad? What were you doing before the display turned black?

possibly trying 'use greyscale' or 'increase contrast'

Those are both in the System Preferences > Accessibility
