I have a Compaq restore cd containing Windows ME. I have turned the old Compaq into a windows NT 4.0 server and want to use ME on a cheap little whitebox system I have pieced together. Is there a way to use the old ME restore cd on the new computer? And I know all about how terrible ME is and therefore dont need any flaming or hysterical laughing and finger pointing.

Unfortunately the Compaq restore CDs have both the operating system together with the system drivers and programmes. As such you will end up in great difficulties unless the PC you intend to use the restore disk on has the same hardware configuration as your Compaq machine.

Anyone familiar with Nlite? ANy idea if it would work with the restore cd to rip out the drivers and programs and leave just the essential components for the OS itself?

take the harddrive out of the whitebox and put it in the compaq pc while you disconnect the original compaq harddrive. Run the Restore CD and let it do its magic (hoping that your harddrive is almost the same size). When done, take it out and put it back into the whitebox pc. I believe WinMe should pickup the new drivers and setup itself.
