Can you restore a backup from an iPhone 6 to an iPad 2?

I bought my wife an iPad 2 and I want to set it up to be just like her iPhone 6 (absent the iPhone only apps). However, I cannot seem to get it done.

I do not use iCloud backup - this is from a backup to a Mac running Yosemite. Both devices are running iOS 8.1.3.

I select 'Restore Backup', then select the backup of my wife's iPhone and I get a message: "Settings and data from some apps are not compatible with iPad and will not be restored." I figure this means it will restore everything except the iPhone specific apps.

I click 'continue' and it appears to go through the restore process, but then nothing gets installed on the iPad.

Thoughts?

I restored a backup from a different iPad (mini) to my target iPad 2.

In fact, I have tried the following:

Backup of iPhone 6 to target iPad 2 - Fail
Backup of iPhone 5S to target iPad 2 - Fail
Backup of different iPad mini to target iPad 2 - Complete

So the target iPad 2 will take a restore from a different iPad (mini), but not from two different iPhones.

I gave up and did it manually.

However, I would still like to know if it was suppose to work.

I don't think it's supposed to work. iPad->iPad or iPhone->iPhone only.

It would be nice if that was posted somewhere. I doubt there would be a technical reason for it not to be possible. In fact, I have restored backups to and from between iPhones and iPod Touch's (which are very similar to iPads re: software and no phone).

A phone and iPod touch are essentially the same, one sans radio. The iPad however, is almost fundamentally different. Apps are not 100% available cross device (eg iPad specific apps not available on phone and vice versa). Managing this with a simple restore would cause some issues would be a pain to manage. Somewhat obvious I would think.

The important items that need to be restored are the personal information like iCloud, mail, safari and such settings.

If an app is not compatible, it can simply be skipped.

It does not seem that hard to me, relatively speaking.

To recover data from iPhone backup can be easy ,you just need to click the backup files and recover deleted data back
