Restaurant menus and my wife.

Lifer
My little woman makes all the menus, etc. for her mother's restaurant/bar. She's been using a couple greetings card programs but they just aren't getting it. I told her to use photoshop, but she looked at me like I had lobsters crawling out of my ears.
What can I get for her that'll help her make nice little cutesy paper goods?

outsource it

It's already outsourced to her 🙂
It'll be hard to find someone to do it cheaper than free. 😉
She does a really nice job and she enjoys doing it. She'd like to do more but the programs she's using just aren't versatile enough.
I thought maybe MS Publisher or something on that order, but I've never seen publisher operate.

MS Word. You can do anything with MS Word. I did an entire school newsletter all on MS Word before, and it looked great.

Then again, you have to know how to use it to make it good

Quark is the industry standard for page layouts . . ..

But if she's using postcard programs, it might be a bit of a jump.

And Photoshop? I'd give you the same look as she was if you told me *that*, honestly.

Flash can do anything you want it to. 🙂 It's not all about animations. On that note, try Freehand or Fireworks.

Quark costa lot😀

I used to use Adobe PageMaker quite a bit. However the latest version out is the last. Photoshop is the other option however that has already been discussed.

Gawd Freehand is awkward as hell to use - of course, I'm used to the Adobe Illustrator layout, but . . ..

Yeup. But if she's going to do this on a regular basis for a professional venture, I'd personally say a little investment couldn't hurt IMO.

But then again, it's a lot easier for me to say that since I can get a $1000 piece of software for approx. 20% of the price (academics) . . ..

Adobe indesign has outpaced both quark and pagemaker..but it's expensive, has a learning curve, etc.

For good results, hire a pro. for the best results possible without a huge cash outlay and time invested, you could give publisher a shot.

but I'm gonna bet it'll still look like a template.
