restarts with 1gig RAM +

Just bought new PSU in my sig, was happening with my previous 300w PSU (which I thought was the reason). Basically, when I stick in 1 gig or more of RAM, the computer restarts when I hit the welcome screen or when I enter Windows. Right now I have 512mb of RAM and I can run windows, but of course I can't really run games too well (I mainly play MMOs) without stuttering. Thing is, it was running fine a few months ago (mid April?) and these occurances have only been happening the past month. Since then I've RMAed the RAM, and got a new PSU.

Only thing left is motherboard and hard drive but I don't have the extra computer parts to check mobo. And I wouldn't think a hard drive would give me problems when I added more ram. :/

Could it be a Windows problem? Yes, I'm not running a legit copy of Windows (flame on), and I know they were scanning ips. Could this be a problem too? 😛

Either that or I've gotten 2 sets of bad RAM. Both are Corsair Value Select 2x1gig kits. Is this possible? I've never had that bad of luck before with RAM.
I really wish I could test RAM out but a lot of the people I know own Intel systems.

Did you load your BIOS defaults when you added your new RAM or set acceptable timings for system compatibility? I'd take a look in BIOS to see that everything looks ok.

And it looks like many people have problems with Corsair Value Select 2Gig kits ...
I'm suspecting that I RMAed the kit and got another bad one. Because one of the sticks will load Windows but the other will not.

Grrr...
Oh well, at least I know what the problem is now. That's a relief.

I don't want to sound like a jerk but reading within some of the parts you have listed in your system I'd recommend to avoid ValueSelect RAM. I'm not trying to be egotistical, it's just the best idea to stray from them, especially if you're playing some intensive games (7900GT). You may also run into less issues (in having to continously RMA) in the non-ValueSelect ones.

Good luck w/ the RAM though bro, please take that as friendly advice.
