Restarting Problem: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (igdkmd64.sys)

I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1, which I thought was really good, until I play games on my PC it suddenly restarts saying "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (igdkmd64.sys)"

if anyone has any idea why this is, please help me put much appreciated.

P.S. If you can't tell I am a computer noob so if you need any other information, just ask.

Based on the file name, I would guess a video card driver issue. But the above program might give you more details. You could try downloading the latest driver from Intel's website, or whatever vendor you bought the computer from (ie: Dell/Lenovo/etc.).

A quick search revealed it of course could be a memory issue, too. I am leaning against that since it occurred after upgrading, but you could get memtest or run Windows built in memory test. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6goeVrWPxDA has a walkthrough of how to access the Windows memory test in Windows 8.

When you upgraded to Win 8.1, did you update your video card drivers, making sure they are Windows 8.1 compatible? Could there be a conflict between the motherboard integrated graphics and a standalone video card? You may need to disable the onboard graphics in the BIOS.
