restarting in XP.

Hey guys when i restart in windows xp, and when i get out of BIOS, the monitor goes dead so i have to press the restart button on the case, Does any one know what could be the cause for this? Thanks!

The OS is not seeing the vid card. Check your bios settings for video and make sure they are OK and maybe re seat the vid card. Depending on the mobo and chip set , you may need drivers updated.

Has nothing to do with the OS and everything to do with the BIOS. Check for BIOS updates from Abit, and apply as needed. Also check the monitor manufactures website for known issues (probably wouldn't fess to them even if they knew of them to be true). But Abit is a pretty responsive company. Other than that try a second (if available) monitor to see if the problem repeats.

ok.. will try it with another monitor tommarow, Bios is the newest Abit has released 🙁.... keep the suggestions coming tho!

ok ignore the above post... this refresh rate was too high for that monitor and after i made the refresh rate lower it worked but i still couldnt restart with it, I inserted a savage S3 card and both monitors worked but agian couldnt restart.. what should i do/try next? thanks agian.

I have the same problem. I do a restart and I get a sleeping monitor on restart. Sometimes other components don't seem to be starting properly either. My intellimouse sometimes fails to light (along with the sleepy monitor).

Asus motherboard - KT266 chipset (not 266A unfortunately)
GF3 Ti500 video
SB Live!

I'm running the latest drivers: detonators, 4in1's, sound.
Haven't flashed anything in a while though. Probably should do that, but I think I'm just gonna build a new box next week anyway. I'm itching for a 333 mobo and an R300. (and a new black lian-li aluminum case with the nifty plexiglass side)

The workaround: Do a shutdown, then hit the power button to start again. Restarts just don't seem to work.

If you find a true fix PLEASE post it. I've seen other threads on this topic elsewhere and no real fix.

see the wierd thing is the comp restarts only if i press the restart button on the case itself which is really wierd!

Eminem2k1 I feel your pain. I have been fighting this same problem too. I have a MSI MAX 845G motherboard, a Matrox G550 video card and a Planar PV174 LCD monitor. I was running the monitor with the DVI Matrox output to the Planar DVI input. I have tried everything I could find posted about this problem and nothing had worked. I had the latest drivers and bios for my video card and motherboard. As far as I can tell Planar doesn't have a driver for the LCD. I had tried a repair install of XP Pro and removal of MS hot fixes
and just about anything you can think to try.

I believe Tripleshot's post above is on the right track. Today I changed my video connection to the analog port on the card to the analog port on the monitor. Eureka!!! Problem solved. There may be a work around that will work for the DVI connection, but I haven't found it yet.

I know we have different systems and something on this order may not work for you. I believe it is an area you need to focus your attention on and try as many things as you can come up with.

Best of Luck!!!

Tripleshot thanks for the tip!

BullPucky, thanks for your response, but i doubt your solution will help me because i have tried 2 diffrent vid cards and 2 diffrent monitors and no luck, some one must be out there with a solution to this..

I have a similar problem. Monitor shows no signal on reboot once it gets to where hte BIOS screen would be, sounds like the computer is booting though. Turning monitor off and on manually doesn't help. Power off and on required to get a signal.

Heres my setup:

Soyo Dragon Plus k7v
Xp 2100+
visiontek ti4600
420watt PSU(directron ordered one)
maxtor 60gig 7200rpm
teac 12x burner
pioneer dvd 116
5, 80mm case fans

Eminem2k1, I had this problem once before. Atleast I think it is thesame problem. I would turn on the comp and get no signal to the monitor. I also have a GeForce 3 card but I also have this Hardware MPEG decoder. Atleast thats what I think it is.. In short and un technical, check to see if your video card has any cables attaching it to other cards inside your computer..WhenI had this problem, the cable inside connecting my Video card to this other card had come loose. sorry not to technical but it could be it
