Hello!

I finally decided to upgrade to SP2 and I have a weird problem. The system boots up and it gets to where I can see the icons load onto the desktop and in the right hand notification area where you should see icons, it starts to load then it restarts. Always at that point it restarts. I can boot to safe mode and I can boot into a diagnostic startup, but if I try a regular startup, same thing over and over.
I uninstalled SP2 and when it booted I got a number of CPU reporting errors trying to report back to microsoft. Maybe the Athlon 64 has incompatibility? I am stumped...
Any ideads?

Thanks!

You might give it an antivirus and antispyware scan since infected computers are known to give those kinds of symptoms in general. If you don't have anything on there that you don't mind losing, nuking the Windows installation and reinstalling, then patching to SP2 first thing, is another idea. Call me lowbrow for taking the easy path, but it ought to work ;)

Yep I thought the same thing. Checked for virus, spyware etc. Scanned out fine. Also a note I forgot to mention (sorry) I did a previous install on this exact system and right after I did the install, I put on SP2. The exact same thing happened. I thought it was a fluke thing at the time, so I did the exact same thing I did before...I uninstalled SP2. Worked fine. I forgot this cause this was when SP2 just came out and I have done so many reformats on this machine, I tend to forget what happened on every reformat.

Anyway...it must have a hardware conflict or something to that effect as the different drivers start to load... I have no idea...
