WOOT!

EDIT: This is the first post I saw on my nightly trip to Software. Cheers Warcrow!

EDIT2: The listed system requirements for Lost Coast are as follows. Note that Valve says they will let you know during installation if you don't meet these, so you won't be disappointed :)

CPU: a 2.6Ghz Intel, or AMD 2800+
Memory: 1GB or better
Video: ATI x800 or better, or Nvidia 6800 or better.

My 5 second review:

- Incredibily gorgeous GFX.
- Sound FX are, as always, right on par with the GFX.
- Very very short....played through it in 15 mins.
- Its free =-)
- Ended up turning the HRD completely off for performance gains.
- The water has been reworked and looks fantastic.
- I was expecting it to be longer, despite my expectations of a short level.
- This little level affirms my beleif that Valve makes the most personable, enjoyable levels. The church was just amazing!

Thanks for the freebie valve!

Mega short but it was nice to see something using HDR running very well on my 2 year old 9800. I'm assuming I was looking at the real deal HDR and not some watered down version for my card right? I hope HL2 gets redone with the HDR effect.

That "tone" lighting thing (that adjusts when you go from indoor to outdoor got to me the first time..but I got used to it..very nice effect!).

I'll add my impressions on top of what you've posted.

- Graphics are incredibly gorgeous. I'd say it's regular HL2 plus 30%.
- Sound sounds the same as in HL2 IMO.
- Warcrow thinks it was short? It was longer than I thought it would be. But still, what took a year?
- It wasn't free, only semi-free. We technically paid for it a long god damn time ago ;).
- HDR looks fantastic, why turn it off?
- Water does look great, better than regular HL2.

And some of my own:

- Lots more action in this little level than I expected.
- The courtyard before the cathedral looked excellent, nice textures for everyone!
- Where the hell is our HL3 and updated CS:S maps?

another view of the floating Combines :)

Text

well, i will finish the rest of that up later - initially i think it is amazing but my system obviously doesn't display it as wonderfully as intended...

let me be the first to say this runs fine on a 9600 pro :)
