Ressurrecting my Thinkpad X40

About six weeks ago, my IBM Thinkpad X40 started making a strange whine, and would'nt charge properly. Assuming the battery was dying, I ordered a new one. Last week, the thing started not working at all - one week out of IBM warranty.

Well, crap.

I have two options: Beg to tech support (which I'll try, and likely fail at) and try to fix it myself.

The good news is that a few electrical engineers owe me a favor. The bad news is that I have no idea of what on earth is wrong with the silly thing.

Any ideas?

It is very common for the DC jack that is soldiered onto mainboard to become loose over time.

If you search ebay you can probably find a replacement, installation is gonna be a pretty tough job, but it can be done. Other than that it might be something else. Good luck

It's not the DC jack. I think it's cooked.
