"Who cares"

was the response i got.
from The people i work with who have purchased MW2 when it was released, and today after telling them that major talent has left IW(the sole creators of COD4 and MW2, as well as COD1/2)in reference to this article
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/...eld-in-litigation.ars?comments=1#comments-bar

they basically were like who care's and that they would continue to buy COD based items. With that said, these can't be the only people who do this kind of thing.
Thats like the singer of a band leaving and trying to re-create the same sound, just because your the same band.

Then i get the argument to each there own and what if its better.
-while i can argue all day about integrity and how its all about who's playin the game. but it seemed like a lost cause.

So i came to the conclusion, that no matter what i said. People are prone to brand loyality, rather then taking the time out to look deeper into the things they enjoy.

I have no problem with MW2, i would have prefered some changes, but will not bag on it for the sake of the thread.

Have any of you encountered this kind of mindset?

i'd be surprised if the majority of casual gamers knew that 2 different developers actually made different cod games.

Exactly. Most people don't know and don't care. They buy based on brand recognition, especially for huge games like Call of Duty that attract a lot of casual/mainstream gamers.

I recently stumbled upon Jason Rubin's presentation from DICE 2004 that's extremely relevant to this. It's pretty interesting if you have the time to watch it.

Even being informed on the subject, still leads me to a "who cares" viewpoint. Will I continue to buy CoD games? If they are good, then yes. Am I at least interested in if the talent who left comes out with a good game? Yes. The outcome could be good for the consumer.

From what I understand there has been a lot of resignation letters turned in at Infinity Ward over the last week, and Respawn Entertainment just might be hiring those people on the flip side. Initially with West and Zampella leaving I wasnt concerned at all for the CoD franchise because the core team at IW is huge and the talent runs fairly deep--but with this mass exodus of employees it's a real issue now.

Way to go Activision.

Keep in mind though that Medal of Honor was the premiere military shooter until these very same developers left EA to form Infinity Ward and put out the first Call of Duty. Medal of Honor has been ignored ever since.

Of course the CoD is too big to be easily dismissed so soon without them, but the reason it is so big is because of the core group of IW. I mean, they've made THREE very popular and critically acclaimed series: MoH, CoD, and MW. I'd like to hope that everything will remain top tier into the future for what they've left behind, but there is no guarantee.

With the reports that Activision is withholding royalties to all of IW for MW2, why wouldn't they leave and join their former bosses? From what I have read, those two that left first were really good bosses and their employees really liked them.

I also read that Activision wants to make CoD multiplayer a pay per month deal. Any truth to this?

They absolutely should join their former bosses if they were happy to work with them in the past. Respawn and EA now have to be ultra careful about what they create. Activision is going to be on the prowl to see if there is ANY likeness to stuff that was done or being done at IW.

This is just nasty and I really dislike this side of the industry--it could just very ugly. I know someone who works/worked over at IW and this person always had great things to say about the team.

No idea.

I have little love left for IW after mw2, however, Activision has to be the worst publisher around today. I won't buy any game they release (or ubi-soft after their new drm bs).

Still waiting for the Cod Hero launch with a 6 month dev cycle.

I guess I kind of believe in Karma. It's funny watching EA & Activision in their pissing match for top spot. Activision recently stole some executives from EA's studio that created Dead Space and opened a new studio. EA basically said we will see your Dead Space raid and take the execs from your top selling franchise (no offense to WoW).

In the long run clients won't remember who the execs are if the games quality remains. I'm interested to see how many of the IW team jump ship.

Starcraft2/Diablo 3. 🙂 Cmon Activision make Blizzard pump out those games!

Probably. Bobby Kotick hates gamers and would charge you each time you launched the game if he could figure out how.
This doesn't surprise me. The latest COD franchises were designed with the pure intent of milking consumers. $15 map packs? "Prestiging" i.e. Let's give you a reason to keep playing multiplayer even though you've owned everyone already.

But hey, as long as we keep paying them 😉
