Bit of advice... if you download an .avi. Don't post that it's a copywritten movie. Say, I recently downloaded this avi from a website, but it doesn't seem to have audio. Blah, Blah, etc, etc...
or, if you're like me, you need an outdated audio codec. Some files didn't paly sound correctly with Divx 5. I installed Divx 3.11a, and then reinstalled divx 5, and the sound works now.
That file was encoded improperly, or was compresses to video but the audio wasn't added. There's nothing corrupt with the file, there's just no audio put in it.
