EDIT: Ok since Arkham Asylum was playing well and all the other troubleshooting, seems it was only this game (Psychonauts) giving the issue, so since I was near the end and just wanted to see how it ended I just youtubed the last level and then uninstalled :p

Hopefully no other games give me issues. Thanks for the help.

Acer TimelineX Laptop (only thing I have right now) with an HD5650 Mobility GPU is now having slowdowns after ~10 minutes of gaming (Psychonauts game). My FPS slowly decreases till it becomes unplayable and then just completely freezes. As soon as I exit game and go into Windows it's all fine.

HWMonitor shows that GPU and CPU never exceeded 65'C during gaming.
I have cleaned up 50GB of space on the hard drive, done a registry cleanup and defrag. Didn't help. Window's Disk Defragmenter said my C: drive didn't need defragmenting.

Most intense game I play is Arkham Asylum, would love for this laptop to last me another few months.

Help? Thank you

Could be so many things!

Is it only while playing Psychonauts? Other games OK?

Have you tried monitoring memory use? Maybe the game (or some other process) is slowly eating up memory until it bogs you down.

Also updating the game, drivers, Windows, checking the health of the HDD (CrystalDiskInfo).

Also making sure you're spyware, virus free.

It's the only game I've been playing lately and just now started getting this behavior and i'm near the end of the game.

I will try other games, as well as run CrystalDiskInfo to check the HDD and post back the results.

Good luck.

Have a read that? Might be a game issue. Are you patched up to the latest version?

"We think the issue is basically that Pnauts is behaving in a way that makes some drivers lose track of assets. So it sort of is and is not Pnauts fault. We are looking at some possible fixes on our end anyway, and will let you know if/when we find a good fix.

In the mean time, we'd appreciate it if anyone experiencing this issue can turn off vsync and let us know if the issue persists. We suspect that the bug is triggered mostly (exclusively?) when vsync is enabled"

That's from someone at Double Fine Productions.

Ok CrystalDiskInfo showed my HDD as good and virus check showed nothing. Been playing Arkham Asylum for almost an hour and no major issues. Considering it's also a much more demanding game I'm thinking it must be the Pnauts game itself screwing up.

Whenever I get into Pnauts if I make any kind of change to the graphics settings, VSync, FXAA, shadows... whatever, the game is smooth again for a few minutes but then quickly slows down again.
