resolutions issues

hey. well i have the x800 pro and my monitor suports resolutions up to 1200x1600. and has worked fine in the games when i turned it up that high. but just recently my hard drive has crashed and i have a new one in temporarly at the moment and formated. NOw when i install the games and play them and solect the 1200x1600 resolution the screen dosent fit it right. some of the screen is missing in the sides. now before when it was working properly i had installed the cd drivers first and then installed the newest drivers for the video card. and on the second time i just installed the new drivers with out the cd drivers first. so i went striaght to the 4.7 version. is this the problem or is there somthing els im doing wrong?
