Resolution question regarding the Dell 2407.

Let's say for instance I wanted to run 1200x1024. What would this look like on the monitor? Would it stretch it to fill the whole space of the monitor, would it make a small box in the middle of the monitor? or would it stretch the size of the 4:3 until it hit the top and the bottom of the monitor and leave two black bars on each side of the screen? Just a hypothetical question? Thanks!

You can do all three, it is up to you... at least with nvidia control panel you pick the setting you want.

It can do a few of those. It can center the image. Fill the image vertically if non wide screen or it can stretch the the entire thing to fill the screen. Why would you run such a resolution anyways???? If a game can't be run at 1920x1200 because of frame rate then just choose the next closest wide screen 16:10 res and fill the screen. Not sure how the 2407 compares to the 2405 like mine but if its VERY similar its great at scaling.

You can do this from the actual OSD of the monitor or ATI's and NV's CP's.

If you don't have an Nvidia video card, you can't scale widescreen resolutions under 1920x1080. For me, it just fills the screen, and the scaling options become greyed out.

It really was just a hypothetical question. I had read a thread somewhere about another monitor that would automatically stretch whatever the resolution and that sounded crappy. I'm curious about ichigo's response... I just bought a 1950xtx, would I be able to scale widescreen images? If I can I'm going to buy one tonight.

I guess I can't be sure about the 2407 since I don't have one but I own a 2405 its older brother and I can get it to fill, 1:1 pixel, or retain aspect ratio. Meaning I can get any res to either center in the screen with black borders, stretch the entire image to fill the screen or if non wide screen fill it vertically with black bars on the sides keeping its aspect ratio.

hmm... I can't imagine the 2407 would be much different? I kinda thought that the the 2407 was a 2405 w/ hdmi? am I wrong w/ that thinking?

they are pretty similar. But they are a bit different the early 2407 had some banding issues though I think that was worked out. Also I don't see why this feature would be taken away from the 2407 if its on the 5.
