Question Resolution Problem

I'm not sure if this is the right section for my question.
My 10 year old PC, which worked just fine up to a few months ago, while playing a game it crashed a few times. At first only to desktop but then it froze forcing me to reboot the system.
When it came back to windows 7 my native resolution of 1920x1080 had gone. In the nvidia panel for my Asus GTX 760 there are now only 4 resolutions available: 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1600x1200.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall vga drivers to no avail.. I also noticed that when I restart the system it takes much longer to display a screen.
My video card is over 7 years old, the monitor too.
Is this a VGA problem, monitor or windows. Any suggestions?
