I currently have a Geforce 2 GTS Pro 64 Meg installed with the latest Denonator Drivers. I'm running Windows XP Pro. Is it possible to reduce the resolution on XP lower than 800 x 600? Like 640x480 i believe?

I know Windows 2000 allowed me to do it. But not XP. The reason I'm asking is because I use TV-OUT to watch my VCDS and movies on my TV. With a 800 x 600, the movie is too small. But on 640x480, the size of the movie is perfect.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Michael

I noticed the same thing, I am using a Gainward Ti4600 on Windows XP Pro and my minimum resolution is 800x600. I am also interested if there is a way to go lower.

Dunno how you set it to 640x480 but WinXP automatically sets itself to 800x600 after installation. It even tells you that it adjusts it but doesn't give you an option to not set it.

Try www.avsforum.com and click on the HTPC forum. Those guys connect their computers to all sorts of TVs, Projectors and Plasma screens. I would tell you the name of the program if I had at top of head. I think it's Dscaler - they all use it. You will find a link to all sorts of utilities you might need there.

They use XP, Nvidia, ATI etc.

you can set it to 640x480 using powerstrip
winxp doesn't officially support being run below 800x600, but i've had no issues with setting it to 640x480 with powerstrip
originaly had to do that for my tv out cause some videos played with every other line offset at 800x600 but played just fine at 640x480

The way to set this is right click on the executable for the program, select properties, go to compatibility tab, put a check in the box under display settings for "Run in 640 X 480 Screen Resolution". You can uncheck this if you want to back to a higher screen resolution.

trying VSEKH's idea on Windows Media Player which is really the only thing I would need to run in 640x480 under the properties is says as follows, "Compatibility modes cannot be set on this program because it is part of Windows XP." =(

try using powerstrip like i suggested then
powerdvd gets a little pissed whenever you're running below 1024x768, but you just have to hit cancel on a dialog box..it'd do the same at 800x600 for that matter
just tested it....windows media player runs fine when you set to 640x480 using powerstrip

my problem is different then mikey's, I need to be able to either have a program launch in 800x600 every time it loads, or hot key a resolution switch in some way. I normally run in 1152x864, but I need it set to 800x600 when I use my nView TV Out. Since most of the time I am switching to TV Out via my remote (Irman/Girder), I need a way to change resolution in a simple hotkey or keystroke... is there a program out there that does this?

powerstrip will let you save profiles and bind hot keys
so just hotkey to load the profile then switch it to tv out

WIndows XP may not support it because once its that small, the interface probably uses too much space..

not sure though, as I am still a 98SE user.. :D
