I am having trouble with a new ultra wide monitor that I'm trying to use with my laptop and I'm hoping someone can help!
My Sony Vaio VPCF127FX consists of:
- Windows 7 64bit
- Intel i7 CPU (740QM @1.73GHz)
- 8 GB RAM (full capacity)
- Nvidia GeForce GT 330M
- 16.4" screen size
I hooked up an LG 25" ultra-wide monitor as seen here:
http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-25UM57-P-ultrawide-led-monitor
The reason I got this monitor over others was the idea of splitting the screen into 2 segments for greater work space. The second reason I got this one is because it can do 2560x1080(60hz) resolution. Everything works great for the most part. However the problem is when I restart the computer or close my laptop which puts it in sleep mode. In either event, when I try to use the computer neither screen works even though the computer is on and no longer in sleep mode. The only way to get it working is to unplug the HDMI cable going from my laptop to the new monitor, at which point my laptop properly shows my windows desktop. I am wondering if my laptop cannot handle the 2560x1080 resolution "properly", because as mentioned it works just fine with that resolution until my computer is turned off/sleeps.
To get everything working correctly each time I turn off/sleep my computer, I must do these steps:
1. unplug the HDMI from my Sony Vaio to the new monitor. within 5 seconds my laptop is back to normal.
2. plug HDMI back in. screen on laptop goes black for 20 seconds. monitor still isn't getting any signal. after 20 seconds my laptop screen is showing but the mouse doesn't show even though I can use the mouse the same and click around.
3. open Display settings from right-clicking on desktop. The "extend monitor" settings are reverted and I must change it again and then change resolution of monitor to 1920x1080 and save and then the monitor will turn on.
4. Then i simply change resolution back to 2560x1080 for the monitor and everything is working great again.
So my long-winded question is why will my video card support 2560x1080 just fine, but not after reboot/sleeping? And is there anyway for me to fix this behavior?
Thank you for anyone's help!
