Resolution in Windows XP

Why would anyone want to go back to that crummy lowest of all VGA modes??????

Sounds rather ridiculous unless you have an old monitor that cannot do any better? If your computer can run WinXP obviously your VGA card can do much higher resolutions. I think the lowest screen mode you can go to may be 800x600 and 256 colors and even that is about as bad as a screen mode can get now-a-days.

Are you playing a game that can only run in low VGA mode?

TV-ouput doesn't take the whole screen at 800x600 on most cards. 640x480 does. Try sticking with answering the question rather than asking why they'd want to do it.

go download a video card driver from the card manufacturer instead of using the winxp drivers, this should allow you to choose 640x480

Mg,

Aren't you ever curious as to why someone would want to use a VGA mode that has been outdated for years? I am interested in why and what they want the lowest VGA mode for.

My screen mode on a 19" monitor is currently 1152x864 32-bit colors which makes me curious on why one would want to use a mode I have not used since around 1991.

You made no suggestions either on how to get that low mode but just criticised my note. No help there. (g)

My monitor is 19" and I'm running at 1280x1024, but I don't care about that. The original poster asked how to enable a certain screen res. That's why I always state why I want to do something right after the question. Some idiot always comes in posting about why you want to something instead of helping the person out.

Yeah i am trying to output to the tv and as mg stated 800 by 600 is not good enough.
Yeah windows xp drivers dont even have tv out as an option, i have the newest drivers, and can change the settings to 640 by 480
but it is out of range, I have to go into list all mode. Then a dll crashes and still no tv out at 640 by 480.

It is not that i want to regress back to the old days, I just want to watch dvds, and other stuff on the 32" instead of a 17".

Thank you for your insight and the lack of understanding.

Wow, you're quite an asshole. Why don't you go troll somewhere else?

Well, think about it. People ask a question expecting somewhat of a logical answer. When someone answers by sounds rather ridiculous that is not helping nor giving insight. If you don't know or don't care then don't respond.

get the detonator drivers, i know winxp says not to use them, but they work fine and you can get tv output, however im not sure if they work at 640x480

MS made it so 640x480 is unattainable using the slider. But there's a simple way, click on the 'Advanced' button, and go to the tab marked 'Adapter'. Click on 'List all modes...' and choose 640x480 and your preferred color depth. This works on my machine, but I can't guarantee it will work on your's.
