Resolution and Screen size

Ok i was playing oni earlier on my 17" monitor, and i remember it as super smooth at 800x600

I just bought a 19" monitor and at the same res the game seems, wait, it IS slower. its choppy here and there even. So does the fact that the gfx have to be displayed on more monitor space mean that my fps is decreasing? If so that kinda sucks, because i could never play oni before i bought my geforce 2 with my 17", and if me buying a 19" monitor has made it unplayable again.. well that'd suck

No, it has to be something else. Were you perhaps playing at 16bit before and now you are playing at 32bit? Perhaps you have changed other graphic settings in the game?

No Im pretty sure it was everything the same...
I'm not sure, maybe its something with my v3. I didn't remove it in windows, i just yanked it out and put the geforce in, and glsetup still things i have a v3 i think. I just put glsetup in again and forced it to replace drivers, not sure if it replaced my new geforce ref drivers or the old v3 gl drivers, but after i did that i installed UT and it detected 3dfx glide, d3d and software. I hit diplay all and chose openGL, which is not supported or something. UT looks fine, is opengl the way to go with ut and geforce 2? or d3d?

I just upgraded this weekend from a Voodoo2 to a GTS and I followed this guide:

Guide

It worked for me! Make sure you close and reopen regedit like it says to find all references to the Voodoo.

thanks i'll try that

yes i upgraded vid card and then monitor

and on a side note, i get 75fps in halflife with a geforce 2

my cpu is running at 450mhz
i see no reason to upgrade really, maybe i'd get 120fps with a 1ghz cpu but this looks fantastic and i can't see the need.

You do know that HL is limited to about 70 FPS don't you? Unless you change it, but you should be fine. Unless you think it's choppy, but if it looks good to you, I wouldn't worry.
I too was amazed after putting in the GF2. Everything looks soooo much better than the V2. When windows booted up, it just jumped out at me! 🙂
One thing I had to do was update my DirectX, CS was choppy, after that it was all good.
