Resistors...can i use a 1 watt 10k resistor where a 1/4 watt 10k resistor is needed?

The wattage is just how many watts the REsister can disapate before overheating. A 1/4 watt is much cheaper than a 1 watt. they are both 10k ohms so it does not matter from that standpoint.

Higher wattage = better never go with less wattage, your project can become an expensive fire 🙂
 
In a very critical circuit a physically larger resistor can contribute unwanted parasitic inductance and/or have detrimental temperature characteristics. Otherwise Evadman has it nailed.
