How's this sound... final straw was today so I'm jumping the gun a little earlier than I wanted, but I can't take it any more....

Dear Mr. Owner,

Please accept this letter as my formal notice of resignation from Company.

I wish to request that you release me at an earlier date on August 6th, 2005 due to personal reasons. Please be assured that I will do all I can to assist in the smooth transfer of my responsibilities before leaving.

I wish both you and Company every good fortune and I would like to thank you for having me as part of your team. The associations I've made during my employment here will truly be memorable for years to come. Thank you very much for the opportunity to work here.

Sincerely,

Adam Baack, Assistant Project Manager

Sounds good. However you could "spice" it up by including more reasons as to why you're leaving, expletivites, or threatening blackmail if they do not give you special benefits prior to leaving.

That's not very long to give your notice...

No, but given that many employers now escort employees from the property within minutes of receiving a resignation letter... I don't think that it's "wrong" to give them that short of a notice 😉

Believe me... they're lucky I'm even giving them this long. My new job is starting up the 15th and since starting with my old job in October they haven't let me take a vacation so I'm taking my own unpaid week vacation.

My boss got in a hissy when I asked to take off a day next week to go pick up my girlfriend's aunt from the airport 4 1/2 hours away. This is the second time for 9 months that I've asked for a day off... sheesh.

That's a good letter, like other poster said, no need to get all upset and mad and burn bridge. Be professional and courtesy, do your job and leave with your stuffs at the end of the last day.

Fixed. That's all you need to say, and that's all you should say.

I don't like it.

"Please accept this letter as my formal notice of resignation from Company."

Why are asking him to accept this. Can he not accept it and force you to remain employed?

So this letter was your formal notice. Did you give another letter that was informal? Will they not listen to an informal letter?

"I wish to request that you release me at an earlier date on August 6th, 2005 due to personal reasons."

Earlier than what? How can August 6th have more than one date, it only has the value of 6.

🙂

Drop the personal reasons clause, other than that it should be good.

When I left my last job I was paid for any of the vacation I had earned but not used. Check with HR (if it is a big enough company).

Good luck in your new job.

Awwwww how cute, ahhhh memories.

But like Geekdrew said most folks are immeidately escorted out upon resignation these days. Expect a quick exit.

That's a fine letter. Reminds me of the one I gave to the last company I worked at.

The president then made me a very generous offer to stay on at the company, and I agreed to provided certain changes would be made. After a few months without seeing any changes, I put my sh!t in a box and walked out one day. I figured my first resignation letter was several months notice. 😛
