Residential window tint...

I am thinking of doing some of our windows and was wondering if anyone here has done it.

Just looking for product suggestions and thoughts🙂

I did, years ago. You need a sharp razor to cut it, some soapy water in a spray bottle (liquid dishwashing detergent and water) and a special squeegee that is really stiff so that it squeezes all the soapy water out. The one we used was given to us by a family friend and it was just a squared off block of some clearish silicon rubber on a handle. It really helps to have an extra set of hands to help peel the backing off the tint, otherwise you'll end up putting little creases into it which become visible.

It was already in the house when we bought. When we were househunting online from the pics we thought it was textured glass, lots of bubbles.


I briefly considered fixing the grammar in the above but decided I like it the way it is.

Agreed. The larger the window, the harder it is to peel off the backing without creasing it too. I would recommend not splitting a window into two different pieces if at all possible.

Edit-BTW, it was totally worth the effort. Our master bedroom faces west and gets the afternoon sun so tinting all the windows in our bedroom and master bath made a big difference in cooling during the summer months.
