Has anyone else played this? I did when it came out years ago but now I'm replaying it and it's still amazing. The graphics are still kick ass and it was one of the last Resident Evil games to have this camera view. And the sound is freaking awesome as well. I did play it on the Wii but didn't like the controls as much. Gonna beat this then play Zero which also looks great.

No, remastered original RE1.

Yeah the Resident Evil games on Gamecube are amazing.

Well except 4 but thats not Gamecube's fault, its the start of Capcom getting Halo/Call of Duty syndrome.

Resident Evil Remake and Resident Evil 0 were amazing and had great graphics, yes.

Gamecube also has Resident Evil 2, but AFAIK, wasn't it just a direct port from the N64/Playstation? I seem to recall there being a couple Resident Evil games on Gamecube that were identical to the N64 versions, I think it was RE2 and RE3. Like they didn't remake the graphics at all.

Um what? RE4 has always been considered the best of the series.

RE4 was amazing, it just wasn't a traditional RE game. Most people agree it's more "action-oriented"; although it still managed to find a nice balance between action and horror without approaching RE5's level of silliness.

Suffice to say, Capcom's not going to be making anymore "traditional" RE games.

Depends on your style of gaming. I like the original RE series since they required some strategical thinking with puzzles and item hunting etc. Resident Evil 4 is basically just running and gunning.

I liked RE 1 & 2 and Code Veronica. A remastered version of RE1 sounds cool. Never heard of it for some reason. I played 1 & 2 on Playstation back in the day, and Code Veronica on Dreamcast (although I heard there was a version for GC).

Resident Evil 2, Nemesis and Code Veronica are direct ports.

Resident Evil is almost completely re-made from the ground up and included in a lot of content cut from the Playstation version. Resident Evil Zero was a completely new game with some new mechanics (the Partner system) made specifically for the GCN.

Says who? Halo addicts? Gears of War players?

Certainly not Resident Evil fans.

The "run down a straight path, stop in large open area filled with knee high cover to fight endless waves of infinitely spawning enemies for an hour, run down another linear path, rinse repeat" gameplay isnt even Resident Evil.

I loved the original. I am just stating RE4 was much more critically acclaimed than the previous installments. I wish they would make a survival horror game similar to RE. It wouldn't be called RE that is for sure.

I liked re4's gameplay better, but I actually liked the prerendered backgrounds mixed with real time models and effects better than the completely real time graphics of re4, mainly because the added effects in re remade were amazing. RE Remade's special effects were as amazing in 2002 as super ghouls and ghosts were in 1991 (both Nintendo exclusive capcom games, although done by different teams) The water looked excellent especially with the sharks and all. The only problem was the graininess in the prerendered backgrounds (the game had a lot of frame buffer artifacts as was typical with gamecube games) but they still looked good.

I never played RE Zero although I need to try that, rogue squadron 3, and pn 03 some day... I heard dolphin has problems with the latter two. I think it may be necessary to create a software mode just for the GC's two rogue squadron games.

I think Capcom should release their work on the incomplete resident evil 4s. I loved the way the one looked where Leon was going down an amazing looking corridor that had amazing looking curtains.

You HAVE to pick up the remake on Gamecube. Or Wii if you have the classic controller. It'll make you feel young again without feeling bad about it ;)

I've played 'em all.

I've been with the Resident Evil series since the first game. Before the first game really, as I signed a waiting list to rent the game from my local rental place, and in return, got a cheap RE comic book a few weeks before release. I've been a Day One purchaser of every real entry in the series since.

The Remake on the GC (and Wii, now), is, in my opinion, the best of the series by quite a lot, one of the best survival horror games ever made, and for my money, one of the best games of that generation. Simply put, it embodied everything RE is and should be about. FEAR, tension, atmosphere. Going from room to room with dwindling ammo, hoping to find another magazine and first aid spray, wondering if you had enough ammo to make it past your next encounter. Hearing a noise off camera, and bringing up your gun for 30 solid seconds and waiting to see WTF it was. All gone now.
Yeah, yeah the controls...blah blah...but with the GC's analog movement stick, it vastly helped, and most importantly, the game design didn't lead to any "cheap" kills (i.e. too many enemies on screen for the control scheme to be able to respond to fairly).

That, and the additions were truly excellent:

--Stunning graphics
--Stunning sound and music
--MANY new, large, well thought out areas
--VASTLY improved voice acting
--Better control
--Better item/weapon placement
--Better atmosphere
--Lisa Trevor (aka Stitched Woman Monster) was an EXCELLENT addition

With respect to fans of the RE4, those aren't RE games. They're barely survival horror. They're action games. RE4 was a pretty good action game whereas RE 5...well...mediocre at best, but they were weak as a survival horror game. The SILLY, overwrought plotline, stupid characters and goofy dialogue, TOTALLY ruined the scare and immersion. At least in the first game, the terrible voice acting was a symptom of incompetent translation. In RE4 and 5, it's just goofy bad storytelling, and silly "anime-esque" plot and character influences. That's fine for other genres, but when you're trying to create a "scary" atmosphere, having a ninja fight with "Matrix" Wesker is just stupid beyond belief.
It's sort of the difference between watching a really good, classic X-Files episode from the mid 90's, vs. an anime aimed at teenagers.

As far as the RE Remake is concerned, it's a gem of a game that everyone with the slightest interest in survival horror should play. Like Silent Hill 2, sadly, there will likely NEVER be another official entry in the series anything like it. We've now switched to mindless 3rd person action, CoD shoot outs, and lost anything approaching tension, atmosphere, or fear.

I can think of very few games I would personally be more excited for than if Capcom were to do a competent Resident Evil 2 remake in the same vein: redone graphics, same core gameplay and story, but added new areas, monsters, and twists.

Dang. I do have a Wii, but no gamecube stuff (controller). You guys are quite the salesmen.

While saying RE4 is better or worse than the rest of the series is entirely subjective, I think we can agree that it was a more mainstream title than anything else up to that point in the series and this will generally inflate critical acclaim (as it appeals to a broader audience).

My favorite was 2. I've actually the 1 & 2 for the gamecube as well, as well as Eternal Darkness. I think if you like RE you would also like ED so if you haven't played it yet you should see if you can find a copy.
