When it came on at the theater I just thought I was watching a commercial and paid no attention until I heard the words "Umbrella Coorporation"

I looked up and got quite excited. First movie was dumb but it was Resident Evil.. I want more!

Me too. I thought the 1st one was quite entertaining. I love how it showed her at the ending of the 1st one, so it really does pick up right where the first one left off.

Hell, I'm not afraid to admit, I kinda liked the first one. Took me back to my younger days when movies were corny and you liked them anyway. Besides, who can knock getting some free nudie shots of Milla anyway? Can't wait for this one.

Yea, I liked the first one too - cheezy story line, but it was good :) The sequal looks good too - I really thought I was watching one of those advertisements some websites have before the video :Q

Cool, gonna have to check it out. First one was pretty good for the type of movie it was.

cool, it's about time they filmed the second one. I'm a Resident Evil junkie and I loved the first movie. From the looks of it the second one should pick up right where the first one left off which is definately a good thing.

Can't wait till it comes out next year :)

I didn't remember the first being successful enough to warrant a sequel.
I didn't really like the first. Unless popular concensus or critical lauds are positive...

I didn't remember the first being successful enough to warrant a sequel.

it wasnt super duper Tomb Raider 1.0 successful but like some other movies, DVD sales are what bring in the profits. ex: shanghai knights was made because shanghai noon dvd sold better than expected despite not doing super well in the box office. ticket sales definetly were enough to cover production costs of res evil.

Possible it turned enough profit to warrant a second one after it went to other countries like Japan or maybe sales of DVD were enough to turn a profit and bring it back a second time.

From the sequel website:

"Milla Jovovich (5th Element, Dummy) returns as ALICE, one of only two survivors of the contained biochemical disaster in the first RESIDENT EVIL, the $100 million hit that serves as a prologue to the all-out action and horror of RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE."

Guess it made more money than we know. Probably cost maybe $20 million to make.

For those that are saying it looks good, How the hell can you tell? You saw about 2 seconds of actual film footage.

Not bashing the movie, I can't wait to see it.

I dunno, some of the special effects were pretty decent and they had to have paid Milla a few million, plus there's all the advertising costs too....it just seems like it would have taken a bit more than 20mil. to make. I don't have any hard evidence to back that up, it's just my assumption.

It's Resident Evil...you only need to know that a sequel exists and that alone is proof of it's goodness. It's like Godzilla you see (the REAL Godzilla, not the Hollywood version). There is no need to watch extended trailers and read up on it, so long as they keep spitting out movies then you're guaranteed to be entertained. So when the rare "new" Godzilla movies make their way over to the states you don't have to sit and ponder if the movie will be any good. Instead, you find out what you have to do to watch the movie and make sure your butt is there.

So, in closing, just as a new Gozilla movie is to be required viewing because of the already established "coolness" factor, so then is a new Resident Evil movie (maybe even moreso because of Milla). The logic is quite simple really :)
