Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition Coming to N. America as DLC

Back in October, Capcom asked fans of the Resident Evil 5 game how they wanted to be able to purchase the upcoming Alternative Edition of the game, disk or download? The fans responded and both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions of the Alternative Edition will be made available by downloadable content.

Previously announced for Japan in disk form, the Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition focuses on events that take place prior to the story of Resident Evil 5 and allows players to play as Jill Valentine. Additionally, the Alternative Edition adds support for Sony's upcoming motion wand controllers for the Playstation 3.

The Alternative Edition will still require the Resident Evil 5 disk to be played so you'll want to hold on to those disks for the Spring 2010 release if you wish to purchase this expansion pack.

Ya know what stinks, they have some of the old forum avatars on the list now but they left off the platypus!!!

Boo, hiss!

Okay, I am totally confused about the DLC VS buying the Gold disc thing. According to Wikipedia:

"Alternative/Gold editions

During Sony's Press Conference at Tokyo Game Show 2009, Capcom announced that Biohazard 5: Alternative Edition would be released in Japan in Spring 2010 for PlayStation 3. The new version will use the PlayStation Motion Controller.[39] It will include a new scenario titled "Lost in Nightmares", where protagonists Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine infiltrate the Spencer Estate in 2006.[40][41][42] Capcom US has announced that the new content will be released in DLC format for Australia, Europe and America. Japan will have a full retail disc.[43]

Another edition outside of Japan, entitled Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition will be released as a full retail disc, comprising the "Lost in Nightmares" episode as well as the newly announced "Desperate Escape" episode included. In this episode, players will control Josh Stone and Jill Valentine as they journey to assist Chris and Sheva.[44] There will also be two costume packs that will be included on the disc and 8 new playable characters confirmed for Mercenaries mode (thus retitling the mode "Mercenaries Reunion"). Alternatively, for those who do not purchase the Gold Edition, both episodes as well as both costume packs will be available as DLC, with 2 of the 8 new characters bundled with each downloadable item. This means that by buying all four DLC, players will then already own all of the content on the disc. However, this only directly applies to the PS3 version, due to the fact that the Xbox 360 version will not contain all DLC content from the start. The Xbox 360's disc will instead come with a download token, allowing for a free download of all of the DLC while the PS3 version already has all new content from purchase.[45]

On December 10, a video was released revealing the first two Mercenaries reunion characters: Warrior Chris and Folklore Sheva. The first one was also one of the two alternate costumes in the PC version of Resident Evil 5.[46] On December 16, 2009, pages scanned from Famitsu magazine revealed the first screenshots of the "Desperate Escape" episode, as well as three more characters for Mercenaries Reunion: Heavy Metal Chris, Business suit Sheva and Josh Stone.[47] Excella Gionne was announced as another playable character as revealed in a Famitsu magazine scan.[48]

The US release date for the disc is March 9, 2010, while the European release date is scheduled for March 12, 2010. The DLC content release dates are as follows: "Lost in Nightmares" and the first costume pack will be available for download on February 17 for Xbox 360 and February 18 for PS3, while "Desperate Escape", the second episode, and costume pack will be released on March 3 (Xbox 360) and 4th (PS3).[45]"

So, is this saying that you can either buy the Gold disc OR buy the four DLC packs to get everything that is included on the Gold disc? I also don't understand the 360 specific part...does this mean that you can't get the entire Gold experience by downloading just the DLC with regular RE5? It says that all the files aren't on the disc and they give you a code for downloading stuff. But...there is no code with normal RE5, so does that mean that you MUST buy the Gold disc for the 360, or can you just get the four DLC packs to get all of the content?

What a mess...DVD FTL.
