The Resident Evil series has caught a lot of flak for slowly decaying into a silly action/shooter franchise, but IMO, the older, classic RE titles are still some of the purest survival horror games out there. If you've never experienced the original Resident Evil - or you have, but it's been a long time - now's the chance to do it.

Keep in mind this is actually the Gamecube remake, which was recently ported to current-gen consoles, now being ported again to the PC. So basically, it's the PC version of the HD version of the GCN remake of the original 1996 game. It sounds funny, but it looks like they've done an excellent job updating the game and it looks beautiful as a result.
The PC version has been ported over to Capcom's internal MTFramework engine, and the game now includes:
-Support for HD resolutions
-Support for 16:9 aspect ratios (the camera pans on a vertical axis to accommodate widescreen)
-60fps animations
-Touched-up/recreated environments
-Updated character models
-Two different control styles; the classic tank controls, and the more mainstream DMC style controls
-New difficulty levels
When the remake came out in 2002 on the Camecube, it was the best-looking game I'd ever seen at the time (and is still arguably one of the best-looking GC games there is). Static camera angles allowed Capcom to "cheat" by using pre-rendered environments, so the only actual graphics processing going on was for the characters and lighting. Aside from being in HD, the PC screenshots here look almost identical to the GC version. And that's pretty good for a 13-year-old game.
