Resetting Notepad's default directory display?

In the past, when I was using Notepad to jot down a brief reminder and then went to save the file using the Alt/File/Save routine, I would be presented directory presentation of files arranged in alphabetical order. Lately, that has changed. Now the directory is sorted in date order with the most recently created files presented first in the list. How do I reset the default display of the files to alphabetical order?
