I decided motherboards would be a better place to put this even though this is a laptop.
My friend's GF has a laptop. I've worked on this one before and never had any problem. He said he was trying to reinstall Windows and "all of a sudden" the BIOS is asking him for a password.
It's an older Dell Inspiron 1000
I pulled out the keyboard, and was able to pull out the BIOS/cmos battery.
I let it sit over night.
Booted it up and it BIOS did the typical "loading cmos from defaults"..
Yet, still get a password prompt.
Clearing the cmos using does it.
Any ideas?
I think this old thread has run it's course.
