Doesn't it automatically revert to the default BIOS settings when you flash your BIOS?

I also clear cmos straight after flashing and before loading defaults. Been flashing a lot lately so have hooked the reset switch connector to the clear cmos pins.

Could you explain why ? Does it matter if you do or not? Why do bios flashing instructions tell users to do this ?

Do you reset the cmos jumper ?

No.

Yes or no - depends on whether the old and new BIOS have the same set of controls. If something got added or removed, the old settings don't make sense to the new BIOS.

The more intelligent breed of BIOSes and utilities figure that out, and clear the settings automatically. If the programmers weren't that nice to you, you'll have to do this manually - either by jumper, or if the thing still boots, by loading defaults in BIOS setup.

I dunno, I just never have. I don't reset CMOS or anything, just flash and go. I know all instructions say to do so but I've never bothered.

QFT

Back when I flashed my board to its newest BIOS, it wouldn't let me boot unless I cleared the CMOS first.

So I would agree, it's a yes and no depending on company, besides I would rather clear my CMOS first anyway.
