Is there a dip swith or jumper that will reset/erase the configuration of a Cisco 2600 series router? I've got one from a surplus sale and have been unable to reset the password. I've followed this procedure:

I would like to be able to xap the whole config and start from scratch.

It seems when I get to the point to enable the secret password, it takes it, but I may be missing something as to how I can access the config with the new password.

I am at the hostname(config)# prompt. I am step 13 and it does not accept the command enable secret. I am new to playing with routers so my knowledge of the available commands is limited.

After "enable secret", you need to put in a 0 or a 5, then the password. 5 will encrypt the password. You full command will look like this "enable secret 5 temppassword". To look at the options before you do this type "enable secret ?" , with the ? and hit enter.

It will not accept enable secret ? or the other you suggested. Myabe I should flash to a more recent IOS? I think this version on here is several years old.

Yes, older IOS's might not have enable secret as an option, in that case you should be all set.

i think enable secret was added in 11.3 and the 2600s came out after 12.0 was released so it really should take the command - you can see what the version number on boot up.

oh - and there is no dip switch...you have to follow the password recovey features.
