Reset video driver vis script?

I am running Linux Mint 17.2. I have 2xRadeon 6990 in the machine. Occasionally the grafix poops. The pixel colors are all messed up and text has weird outlines. Tried the fonts library updates to no avail. Changing display resolution seems to fix the problem, even if i do not keep the changes. I suspect the answer lies in restring the video driver.

Can someone help me make a shell script that would do it for me rater than having to change resolution via display dialog box?

Thanks ahead
