just heard on the news that reservist are being called to active duty, part of a plan to conduct a sustained campaign.

Bush isnt screwing around about this. Our country is gearing up for a full fledged war.

considering how small our military is right now i suspect the draft will be initiated soon.

A draft?? I highly doubt this would happen. Who are we fighting that would require such numbers of soldiers that we would need to draft more? I don't think Desert Storm utilized all of our military assets, plus, we have NATO countries that would be participating in this war as well.

Your title is misleading... it says the President is considering initating the draft... is that true, or is that your own assumptions?

latest count is 1.2 Million in our armed forces. thats only 1/3 of what we had 10 years ago during the gulf war.

no countries of NATO have commited in any military action with us. They have how ever given us the green light to do what we need to do and will support us.

Sorry, this is a fairly ignorant post.

a) There has been no talk of a draft
b) There is still enough of a military to carry out an all out war on two fronts
c) Reservists have been called up numerous times since the Gulf War. Many are really tiring of it. It's no longer a "shock" to us to get the call.
d) Of course the Reserves will be getting called up for these strike. At least in the Army, the Reserves make up 80-90% of all combat support and combat service support assets.

I agree. Unless the President actually said himself that he is considering re-instating the draft?

If I remember right, the millitary and its agents cannot act as a police / aid the police on US soil unless martial law is declared...

Reserves do not act as police except in the case of martial law. That is the job of the national guard.

Actually, the Reserves typically do much of the fighting overseas in modern times. I seem to recall that the first AF pilot who shot down an Iraqi plane during the Gulf War was a United Airlines pilot on active reserve status in an A-10 Warthog.

There was no reason for this thread to have a title like this. There is no talk of a draft that i heard of. THere was some talk of calling ion the reserves (I saw it on the nytimes site), but as someone already said that happens often. I think it is in bad taste to use that type hype, to get people to read this.
