Im planning on picking up some better tim with a new cpu cooler and seeing as I'm already taking the motherboard out (bolt thru kit), I was wondering if it would be worthwhile to reseat the northbridge heatsink, apply some tx-2 or mx-2 and throw on a 40mm fan.

I have it at 400 right now, but going to go as high as i can once i get better cooling on the cpu. Is taking the heatsink off worth the trouble?

thanks

ps: should i do the same thing with my 3850 core?

Sure, why not. If you have the interest in doing it, go ahead as it is a very easy removal and re-install on this board. Using (2) v-pin snap on the HS makes it nice and easy. Also, make sure you don't over apply the "tim". Make sure when installing back onto the Mobo it is snapped in correctly. Double check.

Go for it. Especially that fan will really decrease your north bridge temperature.

As for your videocard, you could do it, but if you have good temperatures it doesn't worth the hassle.

thanks for your replys
I think i will end up doing the northbridge. The reason im asking about the 3850 is because I was reading somewhere that a guy replaced the factory tim on a 4850 and it dropped his idle temps by over 20C. Seems a little much but if i can get even half of that it would be worth it to me.
