All I know is that you won't find anything in it's class that will be as reliable as that car. Make absolutely sure the guy has never done any FI modifications to it though.

If you're going to wait, i think they're going to change the IS platform so it'll lower prices of the current generation, or tempt you to get a new one.

Supposedly going to share platforms with the new Supra. I'm not sure though, so no quoting. :)

I just saw the lexus is430 if I recall correctly at the la autoshow. It was a project car so there is a good chance they will make it. I guess project car means its beyond concept or something. Personally I would never buy one, overpriced for what you get but thats just my opinion.

I think they're going to make some modifications like they did from the ES300 to the ES330, but more performance oriented. It's a great car though :D

Whatever :) Most of the people I see getting into IS300s are girls. In fact I saw an old lady today get into one at the grocery store.

Agreed. The celica is a definite girl's car. The beetle is too. And the miata. The sentra is really just a poor man's car, and even if it is girly I didn't pay $21k for it ;)

I see late 30's moms getting into maximas everytime I'm out and about.
What's your point ?
In fact when I was driving around today. I saw 30 late 30's-40's moms getting into maximas. From randomly on the streets to a grocery parking lot.

My dad can beat your dad up. To answer your question, I made my point above. IS300 is a girly car!

I have a friend who bought an 02 (I think) and he seems pretty happy with it. But then again he's the kind of guy that is usually pretty happy with anything. I casually looked into buying one and from everything I read they seemed to be pretty decent cars. Actually I think what turned me off about them was the high resale value - I *think* you're about right on the used 01 cost, like low 20s.. but I also *think* I remember reading that some people were buying brand new 03s for high 20s.... it seemed silly to be paying $23k for a 2 year old car if I could get a brand new one for $29k. But I might be off by a few thousand $$ on that, it was a few months ago I was looking.

And yes, there have been rumors of an is430, which will probably knock down the prices of used ones if it actually comes out.

Edit: Yeah, I checked autotrader real quick, and the going rate for a 2001 (w/about 40k miles) is an asking price of about $22,000... and there was at least one 2003 w/10k miles - asking price of $28,000. To me that seems a little out of whack, it seems like the 01s should be worth more like $19-20k. Plus I *think* my buddy said that there were very few options packages, which works in your favor as a buyer because it means that most of the used cars will have similar feature sets. (although not necessarily identical)

Just make sure the under wheel well or whatever has been taken care of under warranty.. or if it hasn't. the 01's should still be under warranty.

There really isn't any other issues with the car AFAIK. I have an 02 IS300. And it's running perfectly fine.

I think the replacement IS is going with a V6 engine with an optional V8 but not too sure about that.
I much prefer the I6 I currently have.

You can get a well equipped one for 29,700.

Make sure it's been cleaned, because getting that perfume out of the upholstery can take a long time.

OK I'm gone!
