Research study shows Republicans lie more often

The OP doesn't "explain" that some lie so often. It merely gives statistics for how often they lie.

What is there to spin? The "truthful" party is only truthful 1 out of 5 times. And mostly truthful half the time. This is something we as a nation should be proud about?

Proud of? No. But the statistic that Democratic statements are mostly or entirely true THREE TIMES as often (54% versus 18%) compared with Republican statements says something very signficant about which side is a LOT more intellectually honest.

Mostly true 50% of the time is intellectually honest to you?
What you are arguing is democrats bullshit smells less worse than Republicans. But at the end of the day it still smells like bullshit.

I'm not sure if that's the most fair way of looking at it. Politifact doesn't choose statements at random to evaluate; I think it is pretty clear that they choose statements that are controversial and have a higher than average probability of being false in some way.

For this reason, drawing some larger conclusion about how truthful they are in an absolute sense is problematic.

My post and your response are perfect examples of the difference between the degree of intellectual honesty of lefties and righties. I clearly and accurately described the study results, and accurately summarized by writing that Democrats are "a LOT more intellectually honest" by a 3-to-1 ratio (bolding added to highlight the operative word "more"). That's a RELATIVE statement about intellectual honesty, not an absolute statement.

You replied by distorting the study results (all of a sudden, the study's "54% mostly or entirely true" becomes "50% mostly true" in your version). And you changed my relative statement into statement about absolute intellectual honesty.

But you're a righty, so the temptation to distort and lie is obviously much stronger for you than for me. Poor baby.

I take all of these 'studies' with a very liberal handful of salt.

It's easy to lie when it concerns figures, stats, etc. I'd also be willing to bet that some of the lies (both parties) are based on people who just ah heck up the math or the data collection - errors produced by bias. But yes, many do flat out lie or are disingenuous at best.

Groups like PolitiFact are good for calling people out. But let's not forget who PolitiFact gave the dubious award for 'lie of the year' to.

"Conversely, Politifact rated 22% of Democratic claims as “entirely true” compared to 11% of Republican claims – a 2 to 1 margin."

So, Democrats are lying to some extent 78% of the time, and republicans are lying to some extent 89% of the time. In other words, they are essentially the scum of the earth and completely untrustworthy and unreliable.

Really all this boils down to is "don't trust politicians, because they're almost never being entirely honest with you." Not that it matters much; the fact that dishonesty hasn't prevented them from being elected shows how much stock we place in that as a political trait.

NAAAH! The argument is knee deep or neck deep. "The formation of Political Parties will destroy the Republic." Founding Father quote, may not be exact but in spirit.

Well, there's no "honest" option as long as 2 parties maintain a duopoly and they both are corrupt as hell.

There are links to them posted on here all the time. And they are just as full of shit and biased as the left wing studies are.

Right Wing Study on Truth In Politics. Where? Found a lot doing their Ministry Of Truth thing by rewriting history. Think Tanks doing "Spin." Oh! Those are mostly concerned with renaming GOP legislation so as not to alarm the public. Pollute As You Will renamed Clean Air Act.

Well, now the President has a snappy comeback for his next State of the Union.

Republican: You lie!
President: You lie more!

Holy crap that cant be real. A "study" that was done by reviewing politifact.com's truth-o-meter.

Hahaha. Wow and now it is being held up as some sort of scientific study.

I thought for a second they hooked everybody up to polygraphs and gave them subjective questions.

Obviously it's not possible that the site could just count the results of their various fact-checking conclusions over a period of time. And clearly it's not possible for an objective fact-checking organization to find that Republican politicians lie more egregiously than Democrats, because - by definition - it's just not possible that Republicans can be making significantly more egregiously untruthful statements than Democrats. And you know this cannot be true because . . . you feel confident.

And yet you use the same style of language as the right wingers do when they describe anything they don't like about the president in particular or the democrats in general.

Why didn't they just study Gawker's in-depth journalistic masterpiece "10 Things Republicans don't say that they Should be Saying"
