Rescuing Old Files

Hi, my computer has been attacked and I can no longer access it because it will not respond as soon as the windows loaded. What I did is I installed another fresh copy of windows, I did not format in the hope of rescuing my old files. But after installing the fresh copy of windows, I cannot find my old files, especially my CAD files. Is there any way of searching and rescuing my old files aside from the "search" by windows? Thanks.

You may need a file recovery program like "recover my files". Ive used it and have recovered files from a formatted HD.
