rerouting tfi module

I am tossing aound the idea of moving the problematic tfi module in my car. There is nothing wrong with the module per se, the mounting of it is a design flaw. It gets too hot under there especially in the summertime which causes frequent breakdown; the distributor is a poor heatsink.

The tfi module is currently mounted thusly; you can see the wiring harness plugs right into the module which is attached to the distributor with 2 screws and dielectric grease.

I'm thinking I'll mount the tfi module on that convenient AC bracket, with a heatsink and fan from a slot 1 celeron and the silicone free heat sink pen I got from Radioshaft. (or should I use dielectric grease?) The module has a perfectly flat surface which should mate well with the celeron heatsink. I'll also need to make up 6 wires and spade connectors to go from the distributor to the tfi module.

If successful, there may be some aftermarket sales possibilities.

Well its a noble thought, but I dont believe it will make a cost efficient resolve. I am a Ford technician, and we dont change near as many TFI modules as the hype you have been hearing about. I would venture a guess that the average module lasts about 100000 miles. Hardly concern enought to panick over or go to extremes to avoid, and they arent THAT expensive. You can buy them Ford or aftermarket. Maybe the best solution is to carry a spare if you think yours has been exposed to heat for a long time.. they take about 10-15 minutes to change out. If you can diagnose the failure you can change one.

Ive seen as many or more inductive pickup coils go out than TFI, and that requires dismantling the distributor to change.
