I think I'm going with MP3 or WMA.. and since WMA is newer I think I'm going with that.

I'm mainly debating on 128 or 192kbps. File size is smaller on 128, so I'll be able to fit more.. but I also listen to my ripped tracks on my PC as well.

I'm trying to do listening tests with my Sennheiser headphones to tell the difference between WMA 128 and 192.. I cant tell

Can anyone else hear a difference between 128 or 192 WMA?
I must not have good enough audio equipment to tell the difference, the best speakers I'll probably ever get are better headphones (I like Koss because they are bassy) and maybe a set of Klipsch 2.1 Promedias someday.

those file sizes are too big. mp3@192 is possible but 256 is too large

its only a 512mb mp3 player
so im looking at mainly 128 wma or possibly 192 wma since it seems to be superior at the same bitrates as mp3

Since most mp3 players sold do not support wma I would choose a standard that will not limit your hardware options in the future.

I like the "big 2" WMA/MP3, but it seems pretty much the consensus that WMA sounds better at equal or lower bitrates.

I'm thinking 128kb WMA, it seems that MP3 only matches 128WMA@192MP3.
64KBWMA is ddaaammnnn close to 128MP3 from my listening tests.

I'll never buy a MP3 player that doenst support WMA. I find that unacceptable, what if someone sends me a song that is WMA.. I'm not going to convert that..

I'd be getting a Ipod Shuffle if not for the dell dj supporting WMA.

I'd do Ogg Vorbis.. I don't think anything sounds better at 128, 192, or 256kb..

i agree on ogg.

im not sure if my dell mp3 player supports ogg though, i know my preferred music player (WMP10) supports OGG it doesnt play as nice with those file types as MP3/WMA

i gotta check into that tho (if it plays ogg)

no it doenst play ogg :( otherwise i'd prob move away from WMP10 to somethign else

im def not getting a different MP3 player, the ditty has everything ive ever wanted in a player. i feel lucky it offers wma support and mp3

im guessing the general consensus is that WMA is superior to MP3 at the same bitrate or lower?

MP3 Constant Bit Rate

Variable Bit Rate

WMA DRM 9, 10 or PD-DRM & WM-DRM

Constant Bit Rate

Variable Bit Rate

LAME encoded MP3s FTW
Download LAME 3.97 b1, rip the CDs using EAC, and use "-V 3 --vbr-new" when using LAME
