If i wanted to purchase a pistol in new york state do i need a license or anything like that or can i just buy one.

You have to fill out the proper forms for a background check and the mandatory waiting period. You won't need a license just to buy a gun to have around the house. You will need one for concealed carry.

Actually, for NY you probably need a "license". It's pretty much just the same thing as registering a pistol in any other state.

Good luck if you live on LI. The fees are outrageous and the waiting period is at least 6 months I think to get approved for a license.
