Required video memory for LCD monitor

Just purchased a LCD monitor with digital input & need a video card with DVI out. Was going to buy a card with 64mb memory but a Kim Kommando column in my morning paper recommends 128mb for flat panel support. Do I need this much video memory? Not a gamer.

BS. Calculate: 1280x1024 pixels at full color depth is 4 bytes per pixel, that amounts to 5 megabytes. This for the displayed image. If you don't do 3D, then you won't need any extra memory for scene rendering, textures or whatever else. So any old 8-MByte card will actually do.

I can confirm that, I used an 8Mb card for my LCD for quite a while at 1280 x 1024 x 32 x 60Hz (not much point in boosting the refresh rate on an LCD IMHO, although I could've gone higher).
