Required drivers for 9800

I have been an Nvidia owner for so long that I need some input from you good people. I have always only installed the Reference drivers for my Nvidia cards, never the manufacturer's software....I only like to install the minimum files without all the fluff-n-stuff that tends to be added by ASUS, etc.

I have finally gotten my hands on a 9800 Pro, and since I don't know anything about ATI drivers, what are the minimum files that I need to install? Like I said, other than performance, I am totally in the dark on this subject. Thanks.

ATI has compiled all the *needed* files into one pack on their website which includes the control panel and the actual drivers. They have all that extra crap separate so you dont have to delete it.

He won't need the WDM capture files in that pack for his 9800pro. Get the seperate downloads for the Display Driver and Control Panel and you'll be set.

Make sure you remove all traces of your nvidia drivers before installing the Radeon card. Alot of folks use drivercleaner to help do the job.

About 3 weeks ago I switched over from a GF4-ti to a 9800Pro and here's what I did.

First I ran Detonator Destroyer (found at guru3d.com) then installed the 4.2 Catalyst driver set(from ati.com, of course), re-installed DirectX9.0b and then reinstalled the motherboard AGP driver. I have had absolutely no issue in any game and I have been gaming constantly with a grin on my face ever since.

Because of another issue, I plan on doing a reformat and fresh install of Win XP. I have heard that this is probably the best way to do it anyway. My GF4 Ti-4600, even though running games "ok", is getting a little bit "long in the tooth" and I find that my games are having to be stepped down from Max settings, and getting fps dropping down into the teen's or twenty's in COD, etc. Hopefully (fingers crossed), the 9800 will help me in that regard. Any tips or tricks you could throw my way to make things run smoother? Thanks.
