Hey all, im a big fan of these boards!

Ok so my current system i've had for about 3 years is like this:

ASUS P4P800 478 Socket
3.0 GHz P4 HT Processor
1 GB Crucial Ram
74GB Raptor
Audigy 2 ZS w/ xtra bay
2 DVD NEC Burners
ANTEC SLK2600 Case w/ 380Watt PSU
with a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB ALL IN WONDER

Now i can't decide which option i want to do

OPT. 1 Get a X800XT 256MB AIW locally for $389CAD to replace current video card and hold off buying a system until atleast 6-8 months (when newer AMD socket comes out and better components come out)

OPT. 2 Purchase a A64 4000+ CPU, ASUS A8N SLI-premium MOBO, 7800GT Card with better Memory Sticks and Better PSU, and use current raptor and burners and what not.

I would like to hear your opinions on what would be a wise decision.
Thanks Guys!

why would you gget a 4000+?
why sli premium? just get a sli
7800gtx
forget better memory sticks, if it's pc3200 already.
beetter psu is advisable. If it works right now, I'd wait for M2.

I chose the 4000+ because of it being very closely rated to FX-53 and the SLI-Premium was because of the fanless design (I've read on newegg about ppl complaing about the fans on the other versions of this board).

I agree w/ the 7800gtx

although having a new system now would be great, my current system does work fine, my question was towards whether it would be a waste of money purchasing a new AGP card like the AIW x800xt for this system. If the system wont really improve that much then i might just consider a newer pc.

9600pro to X800XT is a pretty good improvement. Go for that unless you play a lot of newer games and want to play them on max settings. If that doesn't matter your setup is still pretty decent, the X800XT AIW should last you until the M2 socket comes out.

a 4000+ will not affect framerates by mpre than 1-2% over a 3500+. It uses a outdated core everyone has given up on. a 3700+ san dieg o or a 3200+ venice is a much better deal.

anyway, a better card will improve performance dramatically. the p4 3.0 isnt optimal but a new card will still work wonders.

I would get a better card for now to hold you over. Later you can always get a new system when AMD switches to AM2 or you can buy cheaper 939 parts. In terms for bang for the buck, I'd get X800XT. Also if you were going to buy today, I'd probably go with dual core opterons and overclock them. Don't bother replacing your old ram, you'll be gaining nothing in terms of speed over PC3200. But personally, unless you could sell your old parts or could give them away as a present to a family member you are looking at :

$300US for X800XT AIW as you said vs.

A64 3500+ at least = $200
New 939 mobo = $100
7800GT = $300
Total: $600 (plus the prices i've given here are in US, and we all know in Canada they are even higher).

Are you going to get 2x the performance with 7800GT over X800XT, not a chance. Not to mention you seem to want to get an AIW card, which means add $50 more X1800XL or a TV tuner card. As a side note, you can always overclock the processor slightly once you get the new card to about 3.4ghz.

well the reason i dont recommend a 3500+ is that a 3200+ is $16 a 3500+ which is a slightly oced 3200+ is $200, but you can get double the chache by gettinh a 3700+ for $10 more.

Thanks for all the imput :)

So if i understand you guys correctly,

if i decide to get a new system, getting the 3700+ over the 4000+ wont be much of a difference, is this right? Even though the 3700+ is 2.2GHz and the latter is 2.4GHz.

Also in you opinions are the ASUS SLI-Premium model really worth the extra cost since its a fanless design. Can anyone recomend maybe another motherboard that would give me similar performance and reliability? I know DFi is a good brand, what about others?

Thanks!

^^^What he said

Also, I wouldn't buy a 4000+. A 3200+ and a 4000+ will yeild almost identical results in gaming. The only difference is in artificial benchmarks, or running games at 800x600.
