I have no problem recommending the Plextor PX-716A (based on Sanyo chipset) or their 740A (which is based on the Phillips/Benq chipset like the Benq 1640). The Egg has been running a sale on the 740A.

The 716A will get alot of recommendations as well...
if you are on a limited budget, the latest drives from NEC, Pioneer and BenQ get the nod
