My current MOBO died and figured I would go ahead and upgrade. I DO plan to overclock.
My CPU will be the i7 920 with the d0 stepping. My existing pertinent hardware is a Corsair 750w PSU and a 4870 X2. I will be bringing over hard drives, DVD burner, etc. OS will be Win7. Primary use will be gaming.
From the motherboard, I want a solid board which easily allows overclocking. Down the road I'd like to get the BlackMagic capture card but other than that I shouldn't have a high need for available expansion slots. SLI/X-fire support is nice but I mostly likely will never use. Eventually I would like to set up a RAID. Absolute max price for motherboard would be $280-300.
For the RAM, again I want something solid, 6 gigs. My question here is; is it really worth it to pay extra for the "highly" overclockable RAM like this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820145224 I'm talking actual performance, not just a benchmark bump. I'd go as high as $170 here. However, if RAM OC'ing is as overrated as I've heard then I'll go lower.
All purchases will be in the US. I want to get the parts as soon as possible.
Thanks in advance!
