Hello,

I need assistance with my new Galaxy Geforce GTS 250 1GB graphic card.

I have inserted the card in the PCI-E slot and after that connected both the power cables which I got in the box. I connected one end of the power card to the SMPS and left the other end free. DId the same thing to the other cable also.

Now the problem is, I started to play the Crysis Warhead game. When I start playing the game after the game has been loading, my PC shutdown automatically. Just warning, nothing. Just shutsdown as dead. I have to remove the main power cable from the socket and plug it in to start it again. Same problem with COD Modern warfare 2 also. It is working fine with NFS and farcry.

Please let me know what is wrong with my Card. Also, what is the minimum SMPS we need to have to make it work properly.

Thank you in advance.

If you're talking about 6pin pci-e power adapters with two molex connectors, you need to connect both to properly power it.

However with the Galaxy GTS 250 you don not need to power both 6 pin pci-e ports unless you are overclocking.

Also what PSU do you have? You might as well list your other components as well just so we get an idea if you're over taxing your PSU.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR RESPONSE.

Yes, I was saying about the 6pin PCI-E power connectors which you get in the Galaxy box. For each 6pin connector there are two white plugs which you need to connect to SMPS. Do I have to connect both? I mean do I need to plug in all the 4 plugs or one per each 6 pin connector enough? I have connected one per each.

I am not sure pretty sure about the PSU and I am not overclocking it.
I have a DG31PR mother bord and 2.9 core2duo processor with 3gb ram.

I had a xfx 8500 card previous with which I had no problem in playing any of the games.

I am not a much techie so, please excuse my wordings.

Thank you for your response.

I do not have any connectors left from the SMPS to connect the remaining two cables.

Also, please let me know the what kind of SMPS would be better like 400w or 500w etc. Which one would be better.

Don't mind me asking.... is this a good product? Is it worth spending 8000 bucks? After seeing the PC crashes, I am having doubts about the product.

I would recommend Antec Earthwatts 500W. You don't really need that much power but it's best to get a PSU that has all the required connectors.

Ideally you would connect both the white plugs, and to separate power cables. Connecting both to the same power cable just further down the chain is redundant, the point is to pull power from multiple rails in case the PSU is a multi-rail design.

Since you are so limited on plugs the only thing I can suggest without buying a Y-adapter or a new PSU is to either lose a case fan to free up another connector, or swap the plugins around to try the video card on another power cable (ie another rail).

If you don't have a case fan to lose I would at least take the power off your DVD drive temporarily to hook it up to the video card to determine if this is the problem.

Is that a home built computer or a Dell, HP,or other vender?
The motherboard is a stock Intel board is why I'm asking.
I'm also just making sure you can use a aftermarket power supply.

If it is home built , I agree get a 500 watt Antec earthwatts psu.

Yeah I noticed the specs so I quickly edited that out.

Why are you guys so fixated on the 500 watt Antec earthwatts psu? It's kind of expensive for what you get. Sure it's a decent PSU, but $80???

There are plenty of lesser PSUs that will drive his system.

I just did a quick newegg search and the best psu with 2 pci-e connectors for the price is the Antec earthwatts 500.

I was kinda shocked too.

I dont like the idea of using those molex connectors.
I would have suggested the 380 watt version but its still 50$ with only one pci-e connector.
Even though the earthwatts 380 would power his system.

meh, there's no difference to the PSU if you're on the molex connectors or not, you're still on the 12v rail(s). It is nicer if you can go with the PCI-e connectors though, and the fact that the PSU doesn't even have them screams for a new PSU :)

Hmm, I get the impression that OP (Suresh) won't be able to buy from newegg or make use of those lovely US-only rebates, being outside the US (India?). After all he did pay "8000 bucks" (rupees?) for his new GTS250.

Not really. I have one in my rig as a dedicated PHysX card (which means it's just there to suck power really), and the fan speeds can not be changed (except louder) and it does not downclock. I have it on a fan controller to preserve my sanity.

Speaking of which, I'm going to pull the card since it does jack shit in my system.

OCZ these days is pretty much junk. *Especially* the outdated low-end lines (ModXtream, StealthXtream, etc.).

Bullshit. Yes there was that H review, but even that wasn't that bad, just ratings at temperature. Do you hear about them failing left and right? I don't think so.

Not to mention they are way more quiet than most other power supplies.

Quoting myself. (Bold)

To put it into simpler terms:

1) Unplug the lower PCI-e 6pin cable from the card
2) Unplug the molex cable from it
3) Plug the now available molex plug to the other connection on the upper PCI-e 6PIN->2 molex cable
4) You should now have two molex cables going into one PCI-e 6PIN cable and this cable should be attached to the upper slot on the GeForce
5) See if the card is running fine

YES? - you can thank Schmide
NO? - you need a new power supply

When you plugged in only one molex per converter (so two 6PINs, each only getting one molex), the card isn't getting enough power for sure, as none of the two 6PIN plugs provide it with enough juice. Since only one 6PIN is really needed, take the above steps and see if it works.
