Request - SSD installation/information sticky

I just installed a new SSD and was able to find most of what I was looking for, but it would be really helpful if someone would put together a sticky with info for new users.

Some info I found useful:

- TRIM is (so far) not supported by Intel drivers. For TRIM to be active, BIOS needs to be set to AHCI, and use the stock Windows 7 chipset drivers instead of Matrix drivers.

- AT articles (SSD Anthology and SSD Relapse)

- AS FreeSpaceCleaner:

Specific requests:

- Links to the download pages of dif. manufacturers' firmware, GC, and utilities.

- Recommended settings with different setups: Single large SSD, SSD boot disc + HDD app/storage, SSD RAID. I'm using the second one, and still can't find a solid answer on whether I should disable indexing/prefetch/superfetch, since many of the apps I run are on a HDD.

Thanks!

The OCZ forum is a great place for the info you are talking about so users do have a place to look for it.

As to your setup, single SSD for OS and HDD for app/storage I run a setup like that and I have only disabled indexing manually. I am running Win 7 and Win 7 disables superfetch by default with an SSD as well as Defragmentation. If you are running XP or Vista then you probably should disable them manually but some apps might not perform well with prefetch/superfetch disabled on a HDD. It is necessary to experiment with these services enabled and disabled to find what works best for you.

Excellent post OP, I was considering bringing up the topic too. Also included should be tips like moving the swap files, browser temp files, etc.

I'm about to install Win7 64 on my virgin SSD drive and a SSD Sticky Thread would be extremely valuable!

About to install a SSD on a IP-3535E board. The onboard SATA uses the ICH9 Intel chipset and AHCI is not supported in the BIOS.

1) Since my board is apparently IDE only, does that mean TRIM won't work in Win7?

2) Should I install the latest Intel chipset drivers or use the MS drivers?
